Time to say goodbye

Hi, everyone.
It's already time to say good bye. I haven't even posted my recipe yet like I said before. I've been working hard to get good grades, but i always lose my concentration getting close to the winter break. It's a bad habit that I always think of things I would do in the breaks while studying for the final....so that I get grades that are not as good as those I get during the semester...I wish I could spend more time on this blog and put my own recipe here. It was nice reading all of your posts and seeing you all here.

Wrap Up

It is time to wrap up for the semester. Finals week is next week, so this will be my last post. It has been fun to post on this blog. There was a variety of topics discussed, which made it interesting to read. I wished that I could have posted on more regular intervals, but my capstone project kept me from doing so.

As I have said before, next semester, I will be working on a game to help English speaking Japanese language learners practice their Japanese skills. I think I have all of the game play mechanics figured out, as well as the technologies that are going to be utilized. In the game design class I took last spring, the game play mechanics were considered the most important part of the design, so I guess I have a pretty good start. Now, I just need to write a nice story and find some good looking art assets to use.

今回は前にお話した成人式（coming of age ceremony)のことを
ちょっと詳しくお話します。
成人式は基本的に1月半ばに行われます。
今年は1月11日です。
市内で中学校ごとに集まって、お祝いします（^-^）
担任の先生や友達と思い出話をしたりします。
女の子は着物、男の子はスーツを着るのが一般的です。
着物を着る機会はなかなか無いので女の子は写真を撮ります。
ただ着物は動くのがすごく大変…
なので何人かの子は成人式の前に写真を撮っておきます。
私も今年の夏に撮り終えました（・ｖ・）/
一緒に写ってるのはいとこです*
久しぶりに友達と会えるのでわくわくしています★
それにお酒も飲めます。

Project

I just wrapped up my semester-long capstone project today. I have not really slept that much in the last 2 days, since I was working on the project. So, I am looking forward to getting a good night's sleep. The project was to create a computer software suite that is able to create 3D models of urban environments from a small amount of information. If you are interested in it, you can see it here. It is nice that this project is now out of the way, so I can focus on exams next week.

Rice Candy Recipe?

Several years ago I was introduced to Botan Rice Candy and I really like it. I've been trying to find a recipe on how to make rice candy on my own, but I cannot find one. Does anybody know how to make rice candy?

Chicago

Hi minasan. Chicago, the biggest city around, is such a fun place so that I can't stop visiting my friend who lives there. It was my 5th time visitng Chicago this year. I feel like I made all 5 times monumental. This time I made some new frineds and some unforgettable memories with them at the same time. I can't wait to shake my badonkadonk again and go to nice restaurants such as Blackbird and 9Steakhouse in Chicago.

study abroad

I'm going to go to Australia and study there for two months of spring vacation.

I have much anxiety about it.
For example, communication with my host family and my classmate.

But I'm looking forward to go to Australia.

It didn't snow, but the temprature is so low.
Yesterday, I went to dinner with one of my best friend.
We cannot meet so much because we are both busy,

We talked about Coming of Age Ceremony.
When we becom 20years old, we have a ceremony to celebrate that.
We have it on January.
We often wear Kimono and have a party.
It must be fun, I suggest.

I’m so happy. I just received a letter saying I got accepted to the study abroad program I applied to. I applied to a program called Advertising in Asia. I’ve always wanted to visit Japan and with this study abroad I can for one week and get credits towards my major. I’m really excited because it sounds like this study abroad is going to be a lot of fun. I can’t wait until summer now :D

Brick

I don't know if anyone knows Brick, but it is a movie. I have actually never seen it, but I am officially acting in it. ROIAL Players, an acting student organization that I am a part of, is performing this show next weekend. I thought this was interesting to mention since I was not originally a part of the cast. Last Monday the director of Brick came to me, essentially in a panic, and asked if I would play the role of Laura. Apparently the gal who was playing it had to be let go for several complicated reasons. So, in about two and a half weeks I have to know my lines and be able to act the character well, and she is one of the main characters. I was scared at first because I thought there would be a large amount of lines, but as it turns out memorizing the lines was not bad at all. At least I don't think so. I memorized them over the weekend and I know them almost word for word. Although, I still have to work on them a lot because knowing my lines and being able to act them out are completely different, as last night’s practice proved to me. :P But, I'm sure I will be able to get it. My director and friends seem to have a lot of faith in me, which is encouraging. I really feel honored that my director asked me to fill in for the role. I've been wanting to act all semester (the play I was originally in got post-poned until next semester), and now I finally can. :) I'm sure my friends are happy too because now they don't have to hear me randomly say I miss acting. Yay! I'm so happy.

Oh (I should do my duty as a cast member :P), if anyone is around MSU next weekend and wants to come see the play, just let me know and I can give you the dates and times and such. It looks like it is going to be a good play (yes, I am a little biased, but I did just come to be in the cast recently and it does look like it will be enjoyable). :)

my first snow in michigan and その以外のもの

It's 3 am right now over here and i juts realized that it has been snowing. It might sound unsignificant, but it's significant to me today in the middle of night. I gotta finish my math homework by the way. But something in the night came up to me and told me to post this right at the moment. I love snow. Back in Canada I practically rolled in the snow-filled backyard for hour, my younger brother rolling somewhere in the same huge backyard. We built our own fortress out of snow and threw snow balls at each other and tried to force each other to eat snow on the groud. No worry-the snow was about at least 40cm thick. I use cm because I still am not that used to the inch system. I still don't get the Farenheit system. I've never used that system in my life. Anyway, my fortress broke down and we built snowmen and I wish I can do that again this winter but maybe my brother has grown a bit too much to play that with a "sister in college." Or maybe not. I'll see once i go back over christmas holiday.
By the way, I have a question to "Americans": When you go back home over thanksgiving, what do you guys REALLY do? I mean, do you guys really have a turkey with the whole family? I've asked this to one of my co-workers and he didn't know because he wasn't "American." My family never celebrated Thanksgiving. We just chilled. I'm wondering if "Americans" really have a turkey with their family. Someone please tell me.
For me, I'm not going over Thanksgiving because Thanksgiving in Canada was like a month ago and I would rather use $150 on something else than paying for the train ticket and waiting wherever I end up in Buffalo NY in the middle of night for five hours. I guess I'll have a chicken by myself. I'm actually kind of excited.

By the way, I have to say this now: I LOVE FALCOM GAMES!!!! I love Ys I/II/Origin, and Eiou Densetsu VI!!! I can't write ED's English translation because it's too tacky and even embarrasses me. But I believe you know what ED means. Gosh Falcom makes such great games and it makes me act like a game otaku. When the ED VII's out, I'm so gonna order it. That's one of the reasons why I gotta learn Japanese. ED3, ED4, ED5 should be in my collection too! I JUST LOVE RPG...
But I don't think I've ever met anyone here who like RPG as much as I do...Even my brother prefers Online simulation games like Sudden Attack over RPG...Are there anyone who love RPG as much as I do? Or am I the only one here who's all hot about it? Has the time come for me to join a game otaku club?

今日はハロウィンですが、私は砂糖より、温かいカレライスとらめんがすっごく食べたいんですね。あなたは今何が食べたいんですか？私は日本の大茶漬けと言う食べ物にも興味があります。昔、”華麗な食卓”と言う漫画を読んだことがあります。カレについた漫画で、たまにちょっとHな漫画でしたが、たべものはおいしそうでした。カレはPossibly世界でもっと、最高の食べ物！あなたはどう思いますか。

Game Design

In my first post, I said that I am interested in designing games. Next semester, I will be working on making a game to help English speaking Japanese language learners practice what they have learned in class. Making a game that is fun to play is difficult, and making a game that is both fun to play and helps teach a skill is extremely difficult. I have played many games that were unsuccessful at being fun, teaching or both, and they can be very torturous to play.

To avoid making another “torturous,” game, I am taking game mechanics found in games made for entertainment, and retrofitting them with practice exercises. I won’t really know how well they work until I put them into practice, so I hope I am right about them.

I think the biggest risk in the project is art. I am not an artist, and I lack the fine motor skills required to create artwork. The game will have two kinds of artwork, 2D artwork for the user interface, and 3D artwork for the game world. Of those two, the 3D artwork worries me the most. Buildings are relatively easy to create, as they are built from plans, and I have some experience building models of real world objects from plans. However, organic things, like characters and animals, are just plain difficult.

I think it will be an interesting semester. Hopefully, I can finish everything on time.

Halloween*

僕は２週前に友達の誕生日なので、＜サンスー＞と言うレストランに行きました。＜サンスー＞はお酒を飲みながら色々な日本の食べ物が食べられるレストランです。
部屋を予約したから、静かに食べられました。僕は友達の誕生日のパーティーにしょうたいしてもらって、とてもうれしかったです。でも、気持ちがよくなって飲みすぎたんです。車を持って行かなければよかったとおもったんです。もっとのみたかったからです。パーティーをしてから、アイスをたべたくなって３１の店に行きました。そのとなりの店でMSUの音楽の教授がジャズこうえんをしていました。無料なので、楽しかったです。みなさんもイストランシングに来たら、いっしょにジャズこうえんに行きませんか？

Do you believe in UFO?

UFO stands for an unidentified flying object.
Since I had been raised in a country under influence of Confucian and Taoist traditions until at the age of 14 or 15, I had never believed in UFOs. I've met some people who witnessed UFOs growing up, however, always thought it was all fraud like those believers of eschatology. Last year, I eventually met this guy in my Japanese 101 class, who was seriously into UFOs and all the mysteries of the living world. I could feel how serious he was by staring at his eyes that were on fire. One day, we went to this lake park in East Lansing, of which I don't remember the name, and witnessed 2 UFOs together. I had suspected my eyes until I watched this clip on youtube.com two days ago. It was also on the national news in Korea. I hope you all watch this clip that I embedded and tell me if it's real. This happened a few days ago and, of course, was on the national news in Korea. They mentioned that there was no military training around the area.

PS- Direction to the park where I witnessed UFO last year: On the Grand River go straight toward Okemos until you hit the bridge around Danny's. Right before the bridge, there is an intersection at which you should make a left. If you keep on going straight for about 15 to 20 minutes, you will see a lake on the left.
PS2- I gotta call the guy and tell him about this clip.

I studied some country's body language.
It is interesting. I interested in India's body language.
When they do point at something, they use their chin.
I was surprised.
I think that body language is an important part of communication.
It is handy.

今日は日本とアメリカの文化の違いの失敗例をお話しますｖｖ

それはミシガンでの出来事でした。

ステイ中、あるおうちにおじゃましたことがありました。

そこのおうちには小さい子（0歳～6歳）の子供が４人もいました。

私は家族とメキシカンドミノをやりながら、

子供たちとも遊んですごく楽しんでいました。

でも、帰り際、その事件は起こりました。

子供たちはお父さんとお母さんから別れ際にはキスを

しつけられていて、かわいい男の子が私の前に来てキスの口をしました。

しかし、キスの文化が無い日本人の私は、とっさのことに、

自分の口もキスの口に………

その男の子は何のためらいも無く唇にキスしてくれましたが、

よ～く考えてみると、ほっぺにチュー（Kiss on a cheek）じゃん！！

それに気づいた私は、無性に恥ずかしくなりました…。

Hello, my name is Jake. I am a senior at Michigan State University. I study Japanese sometimes. My major is Telecommunications and Information Studies. After graduating I plan on taking the GMAT and applying for business school. I studied Japanese both semesters last year and I am studying it now.

I've lived in Michigan my whole life. My mother is Filipino and I have been to the Philippines twice. Next semester I plan on studying abroad in Japan, if I can get the finances situated. It will be the first time for me to study in another country, so I am excited if I can go.

I don't really know what to talk about in these blogs. I heard that there was a new Japanese Prime Minister named Taro Asou. Sounds pretty insane. I hope he is good. How is Nagoya? Is it crazy there?

Unfortunately I do not draw a lot for fun because I never seem to have time, but when I do find the time to draw it tends to be in manga style. Here are a few of my most recent quick sketches, although even these are fairly old. Over the summer I was able to finally use my how-to-draw manga books that I have had for years. (Since I was just copying from the how-to books I didn’t put any of those drawings up, even though they are the most recent.) But I didn’t get very far before school started, and now I haven’t found the time to draw anything. Hopefully next semester when I have my art class I will be able to draw some more, even if it isn’t in manga style.

What I am.

My name's "Ri", which is North Korean way of saying my name, but my origin isn't North Korea. JP people call me "Ri" anyway because here in N.America, my last name has suddenly become Lee from "I" (pronunced "ee"). And Lee is pronunced "Ri" in Japanese, apparently. Personally, I don't mind because "Ri" sounds prettier than just "I". I just don't know why my name should be transformed to Lee. There are too many Lees out there. I would want something unique for my name.

It's been almost a month since I came to MSU. Generally, I like the north-half of the campus because it looks real collegiate. The south-half seems a bit industrial. If there hadn't been the Rape Trail near my dorm, I would have gone crazy two weeks earlier.
The Rape Trail is some forest in the campus. I like the Rape Trail so much. It's one of the most beautiful place in the campus. Too bad it's called "R.T" thanks to perverts.
